The Munising Drama Club’s production of ‘Murder on the 518’ on March 20th and 21st left audiences captivated with its riveting performances. Director Joleen St. Amour expressed her heartfelt gratitude, stating, “We are so grateful that so many people came to see the show. This was one of the best showings we’ve had since I’ve been the director.” Assisting St. Amour were Assistant Directors Kelsey Maxon and Jasmyn Hallford, whose contributions were instrumental in the production’s success. The talented cast, including Brynlee Meyer, Duray Murk, Braeden Hallford, Natalia St. Amour, Will Wilson, Nathan Petersen, Tori Butler, Makalah Fishburn, Camdyn Schultz, Dylan Cornish, Ethan Petersen, Kelvin McNally, Alison Niemi, Keira Albright, Addie Bowerman, Cleo Witty, Natalie Holmes-Niven, Juliana Smith, and Hazelyn Winsor. Behind the scenes, a dedicated crew, comprising Carly Reffruschinni, Destiny Andrews, Evon Goss, Sophia Anderson, Sierra Dyer, Rylee Beauchaine, Jackson Carlson, Lilly LeGrand, Natalie Hermann, Macy Heyrman, Katy Richards, Teaghan Ballas, and Orin Shalo. Looking ahead, St. Amour announced, “We will be turning right around to begin our Spring play when we come back from break.”

The season of promise for the Ishpeming girls basketball team turned into a dream come true on Saturday. Playing in the Division 4 state championship game at Michigan State University, the Lady Hematites were able to overcome an early deficit, taking down Kingston 73-54 for the programs’ first ever state title.

After successful alumni games in soccer and volleyball, Munising Baptist decided to give its basketball program a chance at the event. That in fact took place on Thursday, March 14 and by all accounts, things went well.

The first quarter? That went about as well as the Munising girls basketball team could have hoped. The second quarter? That was another story unfortunately, as the Lady Mustangs were outscored by St. Ignace by 18 points in that frame, leading to Munising falling 54-33 in their Division 4 regional championship game at Newberry.

The winds of change are certainly blowing around the Superior Central football program. After going 1-7 in 2022 and 0-9 in 2023, the Cougars have opted to play as a junior varsity team during the upcoming 2024 season. They’ll also do so under a new head coach; Todd Spranger.

In the echoing gymnasium of Munising High School, Emersyn Crisp, affectionately known as Emmy, etched her name in the history of Mustang sporting greatness. With a flick of her wrist and constant determination, she ascended to an elite echelon, joining the exclusive 1000-point club—a feat achieved by few high school athletes. Yet, behind this moment of glory lies a tale not only of fortitude and community but also of family resilience amidst adversity.
