Beacon reception today
The Munising Beacon will be having a small reception at the Munising School Public Library at noon on Friday, Sept. 1 to celebrate our first printed edition. All are welcome.
Quilt guild asking for displays
The Munising Bay Quilt Guild is inviting quilters and quilt owners from Alger County to display items at their upcoming quilt show Oct. 13-14.

School year starts
Local schools are heading back to the classroom over the next week. AuTrain-Onota started first on Monday, Aug. 28 while Superior Central was on Tuesday, Aug.
29. Munising will start on Tuesday, Sept. 5 and Grand Marais will start on Sept. 6.
Two Hearted River Airfield reopens
After two years of volunteer work and help from the Recreational Aviation Foundation, the Two Hearted River Air Field has reopened. The rural airstrip is part of a resurgence of rural Michigan grass airstrips supported by the RAF, which includes work at Hanley Field in Wetmore.
