Bay volleyball sweeps home matches
The Bay Norse beat two Northern Michigan rivals last weekend, defeating Gogebic Community College 3-1 on Saturday. The Norse and the Sampsons also played in a round robin on Sunday, with Bay beating both Gogebic and Alpena Community College 2-1.
Fed. ruling unites MHSAA soccer seasons
After a ruling in federal district court, the MHSAA will unite the lower and Upper Peninsula boys and girls soccer seasons. The boys and girls seasons were flipped depending on which peninsula the teams were located in, but the new ruling will put the boys teams in the Fall and girls teams in the Spring.
Goss stands out at Wildcat
Open
Munising top boys runner Danny Goss medaled at the Northern Michigan University Wildcat Open on Saturday, Aug. 26 in Marquette, finishing 12th overall with a time of 17:17.4. The competition was tough with perennial distance running powerhouse Marquette as the local high school and runners from Macomb Dakota, Michigan’s largest high school.
SC spikers lose to Gwinn
The Superior Central girls volleyball team lost 3-1 to the Gwinn Modeltowners on Tues. Aug. 22. The Cougars won the third set 25-16, but dropped the final set 26-24 for the regular season loss.
College football begins in U.P.
The Northern Michigan University Wildcats traveled to Minnesota Duluth to start the 2023 football season on Thursday, Aug. 31 with the game finishing after deadline of this week’s Munising Beacon. Both U.P. teams will be in action next week at home, with NMU hosting Lake Erie and Michigan Tech is hosting Hillsdale.
