Pure Michigan winter tourism advertising campaign kicks off

The temperatures are continuing to drop, and snow is starting to make its annual appearance, signaling the time for friends and families to start planning their winter adventures. To support those planning efforts, Pure Michigan is officially launching its national winter advertising campaign. This season, the campaign features two new advertising spots: Loud and Heart of Winter.

Governor Gretchen Whitmer

Governor Gretchen Whitmer holds Mitch E. Gander, a turkey she pardoned earlier this week. The name, submitted by two downstate school children, is a play on the term “Michigander”. The name beat out Tahquamenon Tom, which was also suggested by two downstaters, and Ryan Gobbling, which was submitted by an Ishpeming native.

Protect yourself from Student Loan Debt Relief Program scams

The Michigan Department of Insurance and Financial Services (DIFS) is alerting Michiganders to protect themselves from scams related to the Biden Administration’s new Student Loan Debt Relief Program. Although the courts have currently blocked the program, scammers have been attempting to take advantage of this uncertainty to steal money or personal information from Michigan’s student loan borrowers.

The Grand Marais Chamber of Commerce is hosting a Holiday Light Parade on Friday, Nov. 25 in downtown Grand Marais to kick off the Christmas season. The parade will start at 4:30 p.m. and lead to the Christmas Tree lighting at 5. Small business Saturday events will also happen from 3-7 p.m. at local businesses.
