Northern Lights put on a show

Alger County residents that took off for the MHSAA Final Four missed one of the most colorful showcases of the Northern Lights in recent memory. On Thursday and Friday, March 23-24, the Northern Lights showcased green, purple and even red across the Upper Peninsula and Northern Lower Peninsula.

UPPCO settlement approves rate increase

Upper Peninsula Power Company has received approval from the Michigan Public Service Commission for a settlement agreement that resolves the company’s rate review case. As part of the agreement, low-income customers will benefit from a residential income assistance credit applied to their monthly bills, and the company will make a corporate donation of $200,000 to non-profit organizations that serve low-income citizens.

Lenten services held before Easter Additional services are being held at numerous Alger County churches heading into the Christian holy week before Easter. Sunday, April 2 will be Palm Sunday with other various days and practices recognized by different denominations of the Christian faith. Double check with the church for additional information about extra services. The Munising Beacon will publish on Good Friday, April 7, as scheduled.

KATHLEEN “KASS” PETERSON

Munising Kathleen “Kass” Peterson, age 101, went to be with the Lord Tuesday morning, March 28, 2023, at her home under the loving care of generations of her family and North Woods Hospice. She was born to Rudolph and Hattie (Wilson) Tallman on January 24, 1922, in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin.
