DNR reaches track chair fundraising goal to expand access at more state park beaches and trails

The Department of Natural Resources reached its funding goal of more than $400,000 to purchase track chairs for a growing number of state parks and trails. More than 300 donors have raised $444,931 over the past five years to purchase track chairs, off-road, electronic chairs that can easily handle trails, snow, sand and even up to 8 inches of water.

125 Years Ago – The Munising Republican – December 31, 1898 Hill Bros. Purchase 320 Acre Tract of Mixed Timber Hill Bros., the Chatham road and logging contractors, have purchased a timber track of 320 acres in the Perch Lake District, a short distance south of the city, and are now busy building camps and moving logging equipment to the scene of operations. They will take out hard and soft wood logs, which will come to Munising plants, as well as ties, pulp and kiln wood.

Animals Needed to Bring Hope and Healing

When crisis strikes, it often leaves survivors traumatized and frightened. Sometimes, people need a cold, wet nose and wagging tail to get through where other people cannot. Therapy animals can make all the difference to a child who is trying to process trauma. They bring focus back to students sitting for exams. They serve as listeners and friends in instances when a child cannot speak to an adult, but can open up to a dog or cat or guinea pig.

Shelter Gives Kitten New Life

Macek, a young kitten with a sweet face and friendly disposition was brought into the Munising County Animal Shelter with a broken leg last week. She was found alone in the woods by a couple of children and was surrendered to the shelter when it was realized she needed medical help.

Randy Gatiss

Randy Gatiss, age 63, of Munising, died unexpectedly Saturday, December 17, 2023 while in Franklin, Wisconsin. Randy was born February 1, 1960 in Munising, MI the fourth of eight children to Robert Bruce and Lois Marie (Mellin) Gatiss.
