Summer’s in full swing, and Alger County is buzzing. Pictured Rocks Days brings the bay to life, Whiskey Ryan’s everywhere from East Channel to Bayshore and the Summer Concert in the Park Series kicks off Tuesday with Sky Pilots — just the first of many bands hitting Bayshore this season. From classic rock and blues to country and indie, the weekly shows promise something for every kind of listener.

This week in Alger history

Graduation week in Munising was a full-fledged community affair. Twenty-five students walked the stage at Mather Auditorium, celebrated in both spiritual and civic ceremonies. The Rev. R.L. Bergstrom delivered the baccalaureate sermon, urging graduates to live lives of sacrifice and integrity. The main commencement address came from Dr. John H. Williamson of Chicago, who spoke about the “Making and Breaking of Character.” He didn’t mince words: If you want a life that matters, it starts with personal accountability. The crowd packed the auditorium, and the local glee club’s performances gave the night a celebratory rhythm.
