Cougars win opening round of HSB Superior Central won the first game of the WNMU-TV High School Bowl for the 2023-24 season. The Cougars defeated North Central in the trivia contest, their first win since being upset in the 2021 tournament by Gladstone.

SC ski program gets boost from AC3, South Bay

The Superior Central after school ski club will have new equipment to use after a grant from Alger County Communities That Care (AC3). AC3 wrote a grant that covered the cost of 22 sets of skis, poles, and boots of various sizes through Munising’s South Bay Outfitters.

Negotiations have been completed for a game with the Negaunee high school to be played at Munising on January 11.

Two Bobcats honored by NLL

The coaches of the Northern Lights League have announced their all-conference teams for the 2023 volleyball season. Two local players from Munising Baptist were named to the roster, as Bobcats Eileen Veneberg and Olivia Exelby received honorable mention honors.

NMU hosts, MTU in NCAA soccer tournament

In a historic first for their program, the Northern Michigan University women’s soccer team has been chosen to host the initial two rounds of the NCAA Midwest Regional Championships. This marks the third occasion the Wildcats have qualified for the tournament and the first time they have the honor of hosting it. Entering the postseason as the second-ranked team in the region, the ‘Cats are set to face seventh-ranked Maryville on Friday, November 17. This match is a rematch from last season’s NCAA tournament, where the ‘Cats were eliminated by Maryville.

Munising NHS adds 16

The Delta Chapter of the National Honor Society at Munising High School added 16 new members to its ranks at an induction ceremony on Friday, Nov. 10 at Mather Auditorium. Joining the NHS were Jolie Ake, Dayne Behning, Samantha Cain, Bailey Corcoran, Alexandra Goss, Daniel Goss, Carson Kienitz, Savannah Lassila, Zachary Lindquist, Kate Mattson, Natalie Holmes-Niven, Trevor Nolan, Nathan Petersen, Tessa Salo, Jacob Vanlandschoot and Elizabeth Wing.
