Dear Editor. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women, and breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in women. Women have a one in eight chance of developing breast cancer in their lifetime. If you haven’t been diagnosed with it, you likely know someone that has. Look around. It doesn’t care if you are young or old, Black or White, rich or poor, single or married. Breast cancer doesn’t discriminate.

Great defense from both teams led to a scoreless first half of play. Black Bears Nick Desjarden scored off a penalty kick from near half field in the final fifteen minutes of the game. Despite twelve saved shots on goal by Baptist goalkeeper, Ethan Swift, Munising Baptist lost 1-0.

The Munising Mustangs tennis team was able to peak at the right time, as a long season ended with a strong third-place finish at the MHSAA U.P. Division 2 finals.

Hayden Bayer launches the ball over the net with a strong spike, as the Munising Mustangs hosted the North Central Jets on Monday, Oct. 9 in the Munising Middle/High School gymnasium. The Mustangs defeated the Jets 3-0 in sets of 25-23, 25-13, and 25-9. Dayne Behning had seven kills. Carissa Deatsman had 19 assists and five aces, leading the Mustangs in those categories. North Central Sam Burton had 31 digs in an impressive performance.

Ishpeming coach Kaitlin Rich said she had a call to make after Wednesday’s Upper Peninsula Division 2 Finals. The school never needed a girls tennis banner before, but they do now.
Superior Central hosts Veteran Appreciation Game The Superior Central Cougars football team will host the 2023 Veteran Appreciation game this Saturday, Oct. 14 at noon against the Engadine Eagles.
For the first time this season the Bay College Cross Country Teams ran on consecutive weekends. Putting themselves up against a field of four-year schools, the Norse continued to show improvement and discipline.
