IntheU.S.Houseof Representatives, a bipartisan effort spearheaded by Rep. Jack Bergman (R-MI 1, Watersmeet) and Rep. Elissa Slotkin (D-MI 7, Lansing) has resulted in the introduction of the DoD PFAS Cleanup Transparency Act. This proposed legislation aims to mandate the Secretary of Defense to consistently release up-to-date information regarding the progress of PFAS-contaminated site cleanups to the public.

Tail Spinners Storytime resumes after the summer hiatus! Storytime will take place this coming Monday, Sept. 18th at 10:00 A.M. Pre-school aged children and their caregivers are invited to attend to hear stories, sing songs and make a simple craft. This 30 minute activity is for ages 7 and under. We are excited to see you and your little one(s) there!
Local State Senator Ed McBroom (R-Waucedah Township) has unveiled Senate Bill 467. This legislation is expected to fix an issue created by an email exchange between a lobbyist and a senior advisor to Governor Gretchen Whitmer employed Greek letters, effectively masking it from electronic FOIA searches.
Gov. Whitmer boasted last month about handing out $19 million in subsidies plus other favors to companies that pledged to create 1,900 jobs. There is a big difference between job announcements and job growth. One is about appearances. The other is about performance.

Should Michigan pursue more “designated” wilderness acres? Michigan already has 16 designated wilderness areas, in addition to millions of acres of wild lands. There is a significant difference between “designated federal wilderness” and “wild areas.” Wilderness designation is highly restrictive and approved by an Act of Congress for particularly special areas on federal lands, in addition to some not so particularly special areas because a national forest is required, arbitrarily by law, to have a certain number of acres designated.
As the weather cools down and days grow shorter, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources wants state park visitors to be aware that staff is starting to remove swim buoys, beach warning flags and other visual markers that denote designated swim beaches at state parks along the Great Lakes.
