This year’s winter weather has been so unusually warm that even the residents at the GarLyn Zoo in Naubinway are taking notice. Hutch, the zoo’s Syrian brown bear, came out of hibernation on Jan. 31; apparently wanting to investigate the warmth for himself.
Back on Feb. 1, the Superior Central boys basketball team lost a close home game against Big Bay. The Cougars were able to get their revenge on Tuesday, Feb. 14, going on the road to claim a 40-37 victory that came down to the wire.

After dropping a close game to Marquette a few days earlier, the Munising girls basketball team bounced back in a big way on Thursday. The Lady Mustangs were playing at Superior Central, and dominated the game in all facets, claiming a 66-6 victory.
The Munising Baptist boys basketball team found themselves up against a bit of a buzzsaw on Friday. The Bobcats were playing a Northern Lights League game over at Kinross Maplewood Baptist Academy, and came up short, 65-28.
Alger County Renewable Energy Solutions, joint with the Michigan Environmental Council, is putting on a program on Tuesday, February 27th at 6:00 pm at Gallery Coffee Company on Green Bank Energy Financing. Featured in this program will be discussion with representatives of Michigan Saves. Michigan Saves was America’s first “Green Bank,” dedicated to helping Michiganders make energy and efficiency improvements to their homes.
