The Munising Beacon is looking for local children to share with us their letters to Santa. Sending a copy of letters from the area’s good boys and girls has been a long-standing tradition in the U.P., but was lost after the closing of The Munising News. Email your letter to munisingbeacon@ gmail.com or fill out the form found inside this edition.
Make sure to keep track of what’s happening at your local library this season! There are amazing new books to read and events to attend. Story Time - Saturday, Dec.
To the Munising Beacon Editor, In the December 1, 2023 edition of the Munising Beacon, you ran an opinion piece about short-term housing. It has at least three problems. Firstly, the writer doesn’t identify her/ himself. Secondly, fewer short-term rentals and less tourism is positive for places like Alger County because of, for example, more affordable housing and food, less environmental and health degradation, and a calmer, safer, and more stable community. Otherwise, you must endure thousands of beer cans in your yards and a crowded, trampled, and costly national lakeshore. Thirdly, the writer doesn’t say how to create a more beneficial balance between short-term rentals and a stable community.

Barbara Jean Feldhusen, 71, died Wednesday, November 28, just six weeks after being diagnosed with cancer. She was under the care of her goddaughter and Vantage Hospice in Katy, Texas, where she’d wintered for the last eight years.
In the darkest time of year we long for the Light. For many, darkness makes it hard to drive, so we have moved our Saturday worship service to 330 p.m. (until the spring time change) so the Light of Christ can be shared in worship.
