Phyllis Cooper, age 82, of Munising and formerly of Delmar, CA, died Wednesday, October 18, 2023 at Medilodge of Munising surrounded by her son and daughter in California via technology and her daughter and grandson at her side. She was born on October 2, 1941 in Long Beach, California, the daughter of James and Allena (Brandon) Bock.
For the fifth time this season, Tori Jandt had been named the MCCAA Northern Conference Player of the Week. With the regular season wrapped up for the Norse, Bay knows they will be the fourth seed from the North in postseason play.

Superior Central continues its dominance of the newly formed Central Upper Peninsula conference, as the Cougars won the CUP volleyball title. Led by conference player of the year in Alice Hancock and coach of the year Kris Bray, the Cougars won all of their CUP matches this year over Big Bay de Noc, Mid Pen and Hannahville.

Sacred Heart bazaar Saturday Sacred Heart Church will host a holiday Bazaar on Saturday, Nov. 4 from 10 a.m. - 1p.m. at LaMothe Hall on Elm Avenue. The event will have raffles, crafts and more to start holiday shopping in the area.

The Norse Cross Country Teams competed in the NJCAA Region XII Championship this past weekend. The Women’s Team finished 13 out of 15 teams. The Men’s Team saw their lone sophomore put up a personal best time.

The volleyball season continues for the Munising Mustangs after an impressive victory over the Rapid River Rockets in straight sets to start the MHSAA District 99 tournament on Monday, Oct. 30.

Shawna Grace DesJardins (nee Eckloff), age 58, passed away on Tuesday, October 24, at her home in Munising surrounded by her family and with her beloved wolf hounds, Shadow and Murphy, at her feet. She fought bravely but lost her second battle with metastatic breast cancer.
The Upper Peninsula Cross Country Coaches Association (UPCCCA) has announced their 2023 awards. While no Alger County teams or runners were recognized individually, the Marquette girls team won the Division 1 Girls Team of the Year.
