Open hearts, mind and church with United Methodist

Our Methodist church meets at 312 Lynn St. on Sunday mornings at 10:30 a.m. with Reverend Sandra Kolder. Everyone is welcome! Children from kindergarten3394 through 6th grade are excused for Sunday School after announcements and songs. Following the service, a fellowship lunch is provided downstairs in Wesley Hall.

Cougars XC shine at states

The Superior Central Cougars have brought home another second-place trophy to Eben Junction, after the boys cross country team finished as runners up in the MHSAA Division 3 U.P. Finals.

Animal Shelter eviction continues

The fight over the Alger County Animal Shelter was back in the 93rd District Court on Wednesday, June 21, but any immediate action will have to wait until another government acts. The Alger County government and the Humane Society of Alger County are still fighting over the eviction notice that would remove the shelter from the county-owned building in Munising.

NMU to play soccer game on Mackinac Island

The Northern Michigan University women’s soccer team will now join the Wildcat volleyball team on Mackinac Island this fall, as the Green and Gold will meet the Northwood Timberwolves on August 19 at 5 p.m. for a historic exhibition taking place at Great Turtle Park. The game will be played on the same field used by Mackinac Island High School when they host Munising Baptist, Big Bay de Noc and Grand Marais for Northern Lights League soccer games.

Michigan drops the ball with teacher evaluation system

A good policy is meaningless unless it’s carried out. Michigan’s teacher evaluation system aims to equip schools to identify and retain high-quality instructors while encouraging ineffective teachers to find another line of work. But school districts have not implemented it.
