Fur and Feather Swap Saturday There is an opportunity to swap out fur, feathers and other goods at the Holmquist Feed Mill in Trenary on Saturday, June 24. The meet is free to attend and will feature local trappers, along with cottage food makers. The event runs from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. in Trenary.

Splash In a grand success

The Grand Marais community hosted the 24th annual Splash-In on the Bay, an annual event showcasing seaplanes and amphibious aircraft from around the Midwest. Roughly 15 planes participated in various contests in front of roughly 500 airplane enthusiasts.

Mather playground demolition begins

Brice Burge The dismantling of the wooden Mather Elementary playground has begun, with some of the slides and bridges already down by the time this photo was taken on Tuesday, June 20. A community pick up for pieces of the old playground will be available on Friday, June 23 from 9 a.m.-noon and 1 p.m-3 p.m..

Mustangs win one more time at U.P. All Star games

It was a rare scenario for Munising Mustangs Head Coach Terry Kienitz and graduated seniors Kane Nebel and Cully Trzeciak. Despite winning a state championship, there was a chance they could end their 2022-23 basketball campaigns with a loss in the U.P. All Star Basketball Game presented by the Upper Peninsula Sports Hall of Fame.

Players prep for U.P. Football All Star Game

Members of the black team are practicing plays on Tuesday, June 20 outside the Superior Dome in Marquette. Players from across the U.P. are on the Northern Michigan University campus to participate in this year’s all star game with multiple selections from Munising, Superior Central and Mid Pen. Players help in volunteer efforts, learn skills and compete in skill events before the game on Saturday at 1 p.m.. It will also be broadcasted on WLUC TV6.

RUTH ANN (SPEARMAN) REVORD

MUNISING - Ruth Ann (Spearman) Revord died surrounded by her family on April 1, 2023, after a brave but private multi-year battle with cancer. A memorial service will take place on Friday, June 30, 2023, at United Methodist Church in Munising. Visiting time with family and friends will be from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. Rev. Sandra Kolder will conduct Ruth’s memorial service at 12 p.m. Interment will be at Maple Grove Cemetery in Munising. Bowerman Funeral Home.

MUNISING - Nancy E. Cook, 80, of Munising died early Tuesday morning, May 9, 2023, while surrounded by her family at UPHS - Marquette. A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, July 1, 2023 at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church. Interment will be at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Munising. Bowerman Funeral Home.
