On January 13 at approximately 9:30 a.m., a 911 call was received at the Alger County Sheriff’s Office reporting a snowmobile accident on Trail #8 near Shingleton. The investigation concluded that Wendy Batterbee, a 44-year-old female from downstate Birch Run, was traveling east on Trail #8 and failed to negotiate a curve in the trail.
We are pleased to announce that Lennon Livermore has been chosen as our Student of the Week. She in the 4th grade and is the daughter of Shane Livermore and the late Rebecca Livermore.

If you’re following along from last month, we discussed the importance of Forest Management Plans (FMP’s). FMP’s are an inventory and analysis of what your forest looks like and what species are present. FMP’s can also help identify trees that may be infected by insect or disease and opportunities to improve wildlife habitat and also recommendations to work towards a healthier forest. An FMP is a guidance tool for landowners to follow to assist them in meeting their goals for their properties.

TaleSpinners Storytime resumes this coming Monday, January 23rd at 10:30 a.m.. Join Ms. Kristin for stories, songs, and crafts about chameleons! Starting in February, recurring once a month, a Park Ranger from Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore will be at Talespinners Storytime with their Read with a Ranger program. The first one is scheduled for Monday, February 27.

The Emeralds Varsity Hockey team faced one of its toughest tests of their season late last week, playing three times in as many days in a marathon that saw them finish the weekend 2-1 in a stretch that saw incredible comebacks, a dominant defensive effort, and a heartbreaking loss in the final minutes against a hated rival that ended a ninegame unbeaten streak.

The Alger County Commission met for its first committee of the whole meeting on Monday, January 9 at the Alger County Courthouse, giving three new commissioners the chance to work in front of the public for the first time.
