The Superior Central Cougars girls basketball team registered a spirited victory against Skyline Central Conference foe Crystal Falls-Forest Park 48-37 on Tuesday, Jan. 3 in Eben Junction.

2022 Year in Review

The Munising Beacon continues the tradition of recapping the major stories of the year for public review. Since this is our first year of operation, the stories only go back until May, but still provides the public with a selection of stories impacting the area. Talespinner’s Story Time for preschool children and their caregivers will start up again on Monday, January 9 at 10:30 with special guest Jan Malone and a snowmen theme. Please bring your kids down to enjoy stories, songs, and simple crafts.

National Guardsman recognized by Munising crowd

With 55 seconds to go in the girls basketball game between Munising and Gwinn, Modeltowner’s guard Lena Pleaugh fouled a Mustang ballhandler. She recorded three fouls in the late stages of the fourth in an attempt to stop the clock and fouled out.

Mustang wrestlers shine at Holiday Classic

For the first time since 2016, the Munising Mustangs wrestling team has won its own Holiday Classic, defeating five other teams from the Eastern Upper Peninsula for the title. “It’s special to win at home, especially with the younger guys,” Munising Assistant Coach David Bowerman II said.

Au Train floods

Au Train is starting to dry up after major flooding near the river delta. As of Thursday deadlines, the water had dropped 2.25 inches and was lowering at three-quarters inch per hour.

Former NMU coach takes over Denver

After firing Nathaniel Hackett on Dec. 26, the Denver Broncos promoted Jerry Rosburg to be its new interim head coach. Rosburg has been a coordinator for three NFL teams since 2001, but got his start as a graduate assistant at Northern Michigan University.
