Every year Munising Public Schools holds an art show towards the end of the year to showcase the artwork completed throughout the school year by K-12 art students. This year the art show was held from May 14 through 16 in the Mather Elementary gym.

The Munising track and field team had the benefit of competing at home for their Division 2 regional on Saturday. The Mustangs did quite well in the event, the boys’ team finished second and the girls were third out of six teams and they had multiple athletes qualify for the U.P. Finals.

On Tuesday May 14, Mrs. Ludecke’s Natural Resources class went to the Anne River to release the salmon fry that had been raised in the classroom. Students left at nine in the morning and returned back to school by one in the afternoon. Mrs. Ludecke’s Natural resources class is a mixture of tenth, eleventh and twelfth graders. Fourteen out of the thirty students went on the field trip.
Munising Linda Lee Margaret (Murk) Carlson passed away surrounded by her loving family and friends at 6:55 a.m. on Saturday, February 17, 2024 at Munising Memorial Hospital A gathering to celebrate Linda’s life will be held on Monday, May 27, 2024 from 2:00 unilt 6:00 p.m. at Gallery Coffee. Christmas Sandra K. “Sandy” Kordish, age 71, of Christmas, died Monday, December 25, 2023 at Medilodge of Munising following a brief illness.
Munising Walter “Wally” E. Vollenweider, age 80, of Munising, died on Thursday morning, May 16, 2024 under the loving care of his family and North Woods Hospice.

Chris Case of Alger County Recycling is one of four recipients of the 2024 Excellence in Recycling Award, presented at the Michigan Recycling Coalition (MRC) 42nd Annual Conference. For over three decades, Chris has been dedicated to advancing recycling initiatives in the Munising/Alger County area of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Chris’s unwavering determination led to the rebuilding of recycling programs in the late 1990s and early 2000s.
