There is something special about enjoying a craft cocktail at your favorite watering hole: the cool vibe, comfortable chair, elevated sound system and tasty, well-crafted drink. For many of us, the hustle of work, kids and obligations of life get in the way of an evening out. So, we settle for a quick mixer or can of beer with a couch session and another rerun of “Seinfeld.”

Arlene G. Goodburn

Arlene G. (nee Nesberg) Goodburn, age 88, of Munising died unexpectedly on Friday afternoon, Feb. 7, 2025, at the Munising Memorial Hospital. She was born in Munising on March 22, 1936, to Henry and Anna (Moe) Nesberg. Arlene graduated from William G. Mather High School in 1954 and graduated with her Bachelor of Science in Social Work from Augustana College in Moline, Illinois. She worked, and, while in Moline, met Paul Goodburn. Arlene and Paul were married on Sept. 3, 1967. His career moved them around the country, and together they raised their three sons. After retirement, they moved from Pittsburgh back to Arlene’s hometown of Munising. She was a member of the Eden Lutheran Church. Arlene enjoyed antiquing (especially Munising Wooden Ware) and working crossword puzzles. Organizing was a special skill, and she loved to read.

What should I do after a transient ischemic attack?

Q: I am 93 years old and, four days ago at 4 a.m., I woke up in the morning lying on the floor next to my side of the bed, not knowing how I had gotten there. I also noticed I seemed very weak, especially on my right side, and when my wife came to check on me, I couldn’t speak intelligibly. She wanted to call an ambulance, but I was beginning to feel somewhat stronger and I was able to say “no” several times.

Library closing twice next week

Please note: Munising School Public Library has two closings this month. Monday, Feb. 17, we will be closed in recognition of the federal holiday, Presidents Day.

Cougars take down Rapid River at home

The Superior Central boys basketball team began a stretch of three games in four days at home on Tuesday, Feb. 4. The Cougars were able to defeat Rapid River in this contest, 33-28.

Committee preps for Senior All-Night Party

Meanwhile, the UP200, Midnight Run and Jack Pine 30 bring thrilling sled dog action to the area. Valentine’s celebrations add to the fun, including Sip, Swirl & Savor Wine Tasting with Sage Creek Winery and multiple live music events, like performances by The Make-Believe Spurs, Bayou Chocolat Cajun Band and Spun.
