There are many nasty actors in our forests. Two of the worst are buckthorn and autumn olive. Both hail from Europe and were introduced as ornamentals in the 1800s. Autumn olive was once also promoted by the Soil Conservation Service as a “conservation” species.

Munising opens with victory

It was a winning start to the season for the Munising boys basketball team. On Nov. 26, the Mustangs made the trip to Norway for the season opener for both teams, and Munising used a 24-point night from Trevor Nolan to lead the way to a 50-34 victory.

Playing at L’Anse in the season opener on Nov. 26, the Superior Central boys basketball team did plenty of good things. However, the Cougars weren’t able to overcome the turnover bug and, as a result, lost the contest, 49-41.
