The Munising tennis team will be coached again by Abbie Hayes this fall. A year ago, she oversaw a good amount of growth on the team, which obviously helped them take a jump competition wise.
Struggles at the varsity level the last two seasons and an extremely youthful roster this year left the Superior Central football team opting to play a JV only schedule this fall. The Cougars feel it was the right choice to make though, as they look to get the program heading into the right direction.

The Alger County Veterans Committee had an open house at the Vietnam Veterans ClubhouseinChristmas, Michigan, on August 14 to recognize local community members. Jerry Doucette, Mickey Rondeau, and Glen Marshall were recognized for their efforts in forming our local Alger County Veterans Committee.

Munising, MI—The City of Munising is in the final stages of a crucial infrastructure upgrade as road construction continues on East Varnum Street. This project, which spans a two-block section from Park Street to Lynn Street, is directly behind the courthouse. While the road is currently closed to through traffic, vehicles can still access the alley between the courthouse and the Sheriff’s Department.

Munising Public Schools’ proposed Sinking Fund did not pass in the August 6, 2024, elections, leaving the district to grapple with how to fund critical building projects and other necessary improvements. The proposal, which aimed to address aging infrastructure, technology upgrades, and transportation needs, failed to secure enough votes, with 762 votes against (51.66%) and 713 votes in favor (48.34%).

The library has several upcoming closings due to Labor Day and the beginning of school. Tuesday and Wednesday, August 27-28, library will open at noon due to staff training. The fifth annual Alger County Veterans Golf Outing was held once again, on Saturday, at Pictured Rocks Golf Course. The event managed to attract 160 players and 40 teams. The goal of was to raise funds for four area veteran non-profit groups; the American Legion, the Marine Corps League, Veteran of Foreign Wars and the Vietnam Veterans of America.
