
The Munising community is coming together to support Jackson Lasak, the young son of Munising Middle/High School Principal Nicole Lasak and her husband, Joe, after his recent diagnosis of acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Two major fundraisers have been organized to assist the Lasak family during this challenging time.

As I sat with my coffee, watching the morning news, and contemplating my work for the day, I became very sad over the state of our country and world. The word that kept popping into my head, and one I have heard over and over again, is polarized. For me, “polarization” has become one of the biggest cultural and political problems in our country and the church.

Already a hot spot for kayaking, Grand Marais hosted a four day kayak event last week. The Great Lakes Sea Kayak Symposium, hosted by the organization The Power of Water in Lansing, was held in town to much success.

At 102 years old, Pat Nybeck’s life is a tribute to resilience, dedication, and the profound changes over a century. Born on July 20, 1922, at her family farm in Bessemer Township, Gogebic County, Michigan, Nybeck’s early life was marked by a series of relocations due to her mother’s marriages. Raised in various towns across the Upper Peninsula, she experienced significant hardships.

After 33 years of dedicated service, Libby Marshall Blank attended her last school board meeting on June 25, 2024, marking her retirement from Munising Public Schools. She leaves behind a legacy of exceptional financial stewardship, unwavering professionalism, and profound community impact. A private and reserved individual, Libby’s work ethic and commitment to the school district have earned her the respect and admiration of colleagues, administrators, and the community.

We hear all the time that it’s important to “go with the flow”, and while that is a true statement, having some routines that you follow on a daily basis is a great thing too. Routines provide structure, organization, and an overall sense of calmness to our daily life, and because of this, they can help to improve our health in various ways as well.
