First baccalaureate service held in over 50 years

It was a small and intimate gathering of roughly 50 people at the Munising Baptist Church on Sunday, May 21, as ten graduating seniors from two local high schools celebrated their graduations in a baccalaureate ceremony. It was the first known service of its kind since the mid 1970s.

Boys golf wins SCC title

The Munising Mustang boys golf team was the best of the best at the Skyline Central Conference meet at Sage Run on Tuesday, May 23. The Mustangs put up a combined 352 for their four scoring golfers, beating out Mid Pen by 11 strokes.

Munising Baptist awards students

Munising Baptist School had its year-end awards ceremony on Tuesday, May 23. It was an opportunity to recognize the students for their work throughout the year. The ceremony combined classroom, cocurricular and extracurricular achievements.

Mustangs win boys and girls track regionals

“If you came to the track meet today, you got your moneys worth in the last event.” Even with that exclamation, Munising boys and girls track coach Matt Mattson might have undersold the drama and entertainment at the MHSAA Regional 45 in Munising on Friday, May 19. Both the boys and girls Mustang 4x400 relay teams, the last event of the meet, were victorious on their ways to winning the state final qualifier.

ACRC vacancies exempt from 30-day rule, says clerk’s office

The vacancy on the Alger County Road Commission (ACRC) does not fall under the same state law as other public vacancies, according to a statement made by Alger County Deputy Clerk Joel VandeVelde. The ACRC is without one of its three board members after the death of chair Jack Hubbard on Monday, May 15.
