McBroom helps with Billerud funding

The state’s supplemental budget bill was signed Tuesday morning, Jan. 31 in Lansing, with a major private enterprise project receiving $200 million. The funding will be used to help the Billerud paper make necessary improvements to make newer products needed in multiple industries.

Munising wins before districts

The Munising Mustang wrestling team had two strong performances against the Marquette Redmen and the Newberry Indians to wrap up the team’s regular season. Munising beat Marquette 36-21 and Newberry 51-18 in the tri-meet.

The Munising High School boys basketball team owned the paint Tuesday night, beating the Bark River-Harris Broncos, 78-43, in Bark River. The Mustangs had four players score in double figures, led by Cully Trzeciak’s 20 points.

SC ends streak in “dog fight”

The Superior Central girls basketball team lost a close game at North Dickinson on Monday, Jan. 30 by a score of 32-31. The loss was the first of the calendar year and ends a six-game winning streak for the Cougars.

Varsity hockey pounds Petoskey

The Emeralds Varsity Hockey team continued their winning ways in one of the most well-rounded victories in program history on Saturday. Dominating every facet of the game, the Emeralds set a program record for shots on goal and allowed one of the fewest shot totals in team history in a 6-0 win over the Petoskey Northmen. The game was the final home contest for the Emeralds this season, who celebrated their senior class of players prior to the game.

Tech sweeps NMU

No.13MichiganTechswept rival Northern Michigan with a 4-1 win Saturday at the Berry Events Center. The Huskies improved to 18-7-4 overall and 11-5-4 with their third straight win over the Wildcats. Tech moved into second in the CCHA standings, three points behind Minnesota State.
