The Superior Central girls basketball team lost a close game at North Dickinson on Monday, Jan. 30 by a score of 32-31. The loss was the first of the calendar year and ends a six-game winning streak for the Cougars.

The Munising High School boys basketball team owned the paint Tuesday night, beating the Bark River-Harris Broncos, 78-43, in Bark River. The Mustangs had four players score in double figures, led by Cully Trzeciak’s 20 points.

The Superior Central Cougars took a strong opening run and stretched it into a victory against rival Mid Peninsula on Tuesday, Jan. 31 in Eben Junction. It was the first time this year that the Cougars boys team lead a contest from first points to end of the game.

The Munising Mustang wrestling team had two strong performances against the Marquette Redmen and the Newberry Indians to wrap up the team’s regular season. Munising beat Marquette 36-21 and Newberry 51-18 in the tri-meet.

Michigan Veteran Homes (MVH) is looking for volunteers to join the No Member Dies Alone (NMDA) program at each Home highlighting the need to offer companionship and assistance to veteran members who are entering the final stages of life.

The state’s supplemental budget bill was signed Tuesday morning, Jan. 31 in Lansing, with a major private enterprise project receiving $200 million. The funding will be used to help the Billerud paper make necessary improvements to make newer products needed in multiple industries.

The Munising Mustang girls basketball team is back to its winning ways after defeating Rapid River 67-14 on Jan. 20 and at Engadine 61-39 on Jan. 24. Paired with a win at Manistique last week, Munising is now on a three-game winning streak.

In what could have been a culturally and financially devastating event of vandalism, the snow base at the Chatham Ski Hill has been repaired. According to ski hill manager Trevor Case, the hill is as good as it can be given the circumstances and safe for local skiers, snowboarders and sledders.
